SHE THAT LOVETH MUCH

She had not meant for them to see
The love that wept at Jesus’ feet
But with her hair
Quickly unbound
She dried the tears
That fell around
And kissed his feet
In the house of the Pharisee.

But Simon knew
What she had been
Had seen her dance
Upon the wind.
With too much wine
And laughter sown,
A prophet would, he thought, have known
And turned away
Like the heart of a Pharisee.

But Jesus knew her
And Jesus loved her;
He knew the shame
Her laughter would hide.
A gentle soul, when sin had found her
What loving hand would be her guide?

But Jesus knew her
And Jesus loved her,
And love can heal what man would not,
And of her shame came sweet forgetting
‘Til only love, only love remained.

Have not I wept in secret pain?
A hurt that none could know or name
Save he that suffered all with me—
Christ in the grove at Gethsemane.

For Jesus knows me
And Jesus loves me;
His love can heal what man cannot.
And of my pain comes sweet forgetting
‘Til only love, only love remains
Love remains.

I had not meant for you to see
The love that wells inside of me
But with my hair
Quickly unbound
I will  dry the tears of all around
Until I have found,
I have found my Master’s feet.
